Susumu Shingu's first picture book Strawberries （1975 Bunka Publishing Bureau） is one of the most popular picture books in the world. It was last year that Shingu met Takumi Seino, the guitarist, who has been appreciating this book since his childhood. Shingu had an idea of making an original musical with him to dedicate to this book, and thus Strawberry Express was born. Shingu created the overall concept and stage settings. Takumi Seino composed the original music for the book plus the song of Strawberry Star, of which Lyrics were written by Shingu.
Blessed by the beautiful weather, some 680 people with small children gathered to see the performance on May 14, 2016. The guests included Toshizo Ido, the governor of Hyogo Prefecture, Tetsuo Mori, the mayor of Sanda and others. The performers were the foreign residents of Sanda, many children, the jugglers, the singer MIKIKO and the excellent quintet including Takumi Seino. The big book of Strawberries, mini steam locomotive train that went around the pond and the huge balloon of strawberry that went up in the air, all together they praised the small fruit of strawberry and appealed the richness of nature on our planet and the importance of the peaceful world.
